Julianne Hough: Tom Cruise Is a Fan of New Puppy

Julianne Hough's new dog may only be a puppy, but she already has a big fan in one of the world's biggest stars: Tom Cruise.

Hough has been spending downtime on the movie set of Rock of Ages with her Cavalier King Charles spaniels, and the littlest one, Harley, has charms even Cruise can't resist.

"Tom was telling me about [daughter] Suri," Hough says, "and that she would probably love Harley."

Hough brought Harley home in April as a companion for pooch Lexi. For the actress/singer/dancer, having her beloved pups close while she's at work in Miami is a must.

"They go everywhere with me," she tells PEOPLE from the launch of the voting campaign for the Hero Dog Awards, which will air on the Hallmark Channel in November. "They are on set all the time, we take long walks. Adam Shankman, the director, has his two dogs there, too, so we've had a groomer come on set. It's pretty funny."

Having her furry BFFs nearby keeps Hough grounded in a big way. "Being away from family and everything, it sometimes is tough. You go through your good days and your bad days," she says. "Having my dogs with me is literally my safe place. They're always there giving me joy and comfort and love."
