Selena Gomez Talks About Her Difficult Childhood

Poor Selenita!

Earlier we talked a little about Selena Gomez growing up with a single parent, but now the singer/actress has gone into detail about what she went through as a child.

Selena said:

"I remember my mom would run out of gas all of the time and we?d sit there and have to go through the car and get quarters and help her get gas because she never liked to ask my grandparents for money."

Her mom Mandy added:

"Yeah, we might have run out of gas ? we did have to walk to the dollar store to get dollar spaghetti and make it ? so we always had food but if I knew she wanted to go to a concert I would save up for it. You do the best you can with what you?re given."

And when talking about the sacrifices Selena's mom made for her, she said:

"I remember having a lot of macaroni and cheese but my mom never made it seem like it was a big deal. She was really strong around me. Having me at 16 had to have been a big responsibility. My mom gave up everything for me, had three (Read more...)

Spoiler alert!

Each of The Voice's final four contestants ? Javier Colon, Dia Frampton, Vicci Martinez and Beverly McClellan ? sang their hearts out on the grueling first season of NBC's hit show.

But only one earned enough viewers' votes to win Wednesday's finale, making their celebrity coach proud and taking home a recording contract and $100,000 prize.

Keep reading to find out who was named winner of The Voice ...

Javier Colon, Adam Levine's protg, is the winner!

"Wow. Thank you. I don't even know where to begin other than to say that the three women behind here are absolutely awesome," he said through tears as confetti fell around him. "I want to thank everybody at home who believed in me and voted for me and [I want to thank] my family."

The voting results were "extremely close," according to host Carson Daly, who said the top two contestants were within only two percent of each other, before naming Dia Frampton of Team Blake Shelton the runner-up.

Earlier in the night, Colon sang "Landslide" with Stevie Nicks.

"I'm pretty speechless ... that was one of the most beautiful duets I've ever heard in my life," Levine said of the performance. "You're one of my heroes. Good luck ... you deserve to win this competition."

'Transformers' Star Tyrese Misses Megan Fox, Admits to Cussing Out Michael Bay

The former model adds, "Having a franchise that she's been a part of from the beginning, and not being able to have her on board is probably the most difficult. Sometimes things don't work out, but I wish her well. In business, her career, her personal life. She's a sweet girl."

So, just how difficult is it working for a director like Michael Bay? Tyrese doesn't hold back in painting Bay as an "aggressive" guy to work under and admits that he's had a few verbal run-ins with his boss .. but nothing too serious.

"He's very aggressive with himself. Very demanding of himself. He has very high expectations of not just the cast, but the crew," he said. "He's cursed me out a few times. I cursed him out back. I don't really curse people out in person. I tend to do it through email. He curses me out in person."

And after a disappointing 'Transformers 2,' Tyrese says even without Megan in the mix, this installment is not to be missed.

"It's the best 'Transformers' in the series, hands down. The scope, magnitude, focus, adrenaline. All across the board. Michael Bay and the team, we really hit it out of the park this time, and we did it just for you."

Tyrese said they knew part deux wasn't up to snuff and made adjustments so that wouldn't happen again.

"We heard all of the fans crying out that they felt they got taken advantage of with Transformers 2," he said. "We came in to T3 focused, and we delivered the best movie we've done so far."

Critics seem to agree already, with the Hollywood Reporter, USA Today and Christian Science Monitor giving it positive-ish reviews. Salon even dubbed it "An American summer-movie masterwork."

But it's not just 'Transformers' that has been keeping Tyrese busy. He has a book out 'How to Get Out of Your Own Way' -- PopEater Interview -- and is getting ready to release his new album, 'Open Invitation' this November.'

"I'm actually an AOL user by the way. I'm not going to give you my email, but I'm on there," Tyrese tells me. Smart guy!

AEG: Cost of bond issue can be cut by $50M

Paul Patsis, president of market management for Farmers Insurance, center, poses with Los Angeles Kings cheerleaders, Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, during a ceremony naming a new NFL stadium in Los Angeles. A proposed NFL stadium in downtown Los Angeles would be called Farmers Field under a 30-year naming-rights deal between developer AEG and Farmers Insurance Exchange. (AP Photo/Nick Ut)

The builder of a proposed NFL stadium said it can shave more than $50 million from a $350 million bond issue it needs to fund two parking structures and relocate the west hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Anschutz Entertainment Group had previously said it would eventually repay the $350 million bond, which would be issued by Los Angeles because the city could get a more favorable interest rate than if AEG had sought a loan.

Now, AEG is offering to pay the cost, estimated at more than $50 million, to build parking structures for fans attending games at the proposed stadium. That would reduce the bond issue to the high $200 million range.

"What we are talking about is covering the cost of two parking structures," AEG spokesman Michael Roth said, adding that the bond would be reduced to the "high two hundreds."

The official proposal is to be made today to the city's Ad Hoc Committee on the Stadium and Events Center.

"I think it's a significant move," said City Councilwoman Jan Perry, whose district would house the stadium. "It's a step in the negotiations and welcome in reducing what is being asked of the city."

Denver-based AEG has been pushing the city for action in the negotiations with company President Tim Leiweke setting a July 31 deadline for a commitment.

He said the deadlinle is needed in order to let the National Football League know it's making progress.

Also on Wednesday, officials announced that the international architectural firm Populous will help with the environmental impact report and design of a new facility as part of the relocation of the West Hall.

Populous will be preparing work for 210,000 square feet of exhibit space, meeting rooms and other related facilities.

The firm was selected by the Convention Center and the firm hired by AEG to oversee its portion of the project.

Show them the money, and they try to cash a fraudulent check

An anonymous donor's recent gift to Los Angeles County has ended up proving the adage "No good deed goes unpunished."

The person sent a $10,000 check to the county last month for no reason other than wanting to help out the government during its economic crisis.

"In this time of economic difficulties, government needs all the help they can get," read the handwritten note accompanying the gift.

"Please put this anonymous check to good use," it added. "God bless you."

But a county gaffe exposed some financial information about the check on the Internet and apparently led to at least one failed attempt to fraudulently access bank funds.

When county Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky's office blogged about the rare and generous gift, it posted a photo of the actual cashier's check - including the routing number.

The website story, headlined "The patron saint of ... government?" went viral.

Within days, someone in Washington, D.C., apparently tried to run a counterfeit check scam using the same information from the donor's check.

"Unfortunately, we got one complaint from the East Coast about someone having tried to present them with a fake version of this check," said David Sommers, the county's public information officer.

He said the county immediately

took steps to block the scam, including contacting federal investigators and asking Internet search engines to remove all photos of the check online.

Image of check still online

"The county tried to make sure that there were no instances of anyone trying to do a scam that took advantage of the good nature of this person," Sommers said. "Basically, we didn't want to overreact to something even after we found out that it appeared to be a single isolated instance."

Not all websites, however, have removed the check image. A quick Google search Wednesday revealed at least two websites that continue to post images of the check.

Yaroslavsky's spokesman, Joel Bellman, said the supervisor's office never anticipated its blog entry would be misused.

"Obviously, it hadn't occurred to anybody that this would be a problem," he said. "It was one of those unanticipated problems where, you know, a larcenous-minded opportunist jumped in and tried to take advantage of an innocent situation but apparently was thwarted."

Funds are being protected

There appears to have been no other attempts to commit fraud using the check - at least so far.

Both Sommers and Bellman emphasized that while there may be copies of the check still available in cyberspace, bank authorities have taken precautions to protect the funds.

The cashier's check was purchased at Banner Bank in Bellingham, Wash., on May 2. It was mailed to the county Auditor-Controller's Office and the bank declined to identify the donor to county officials.

Auditor-Controller Wendy Watanabe said while the county receives financial donations, they are usually designated for specific county programs, not for the general fund.

"We were elated that there would be such a good person out there," Watanabe said on Yaroslavsky's website. "Most of the time we get attacked for overspending. For someone to actually donate to the government, it's just unheard of."

"Why this person picked L.A. County, we have not a clue," she added. "Maybe they've sent $10,000 to every government agency out there."

MORE: Toddlers & Tiaras Recap: Chloe Gets Waxed, Saryniti Prays and Halle Sprays (Tan)

Out of the Mouths of Babes: Mom Lori first dismisses daughter Alaska's Nordic good looks as "cookie-cutter," then proceeds to advise her dancing 8-year-old with this gem: "You're not a stripper, but shake your butt a little bit." The best part is Al's reply: "Why would you even say that?!" Ha! Further props to Alaska for later sagely noting, "You are one of the crazy moms."

Fairy Glitzmother: At first we were annoyed with nail technician Debbie for ragging on little Olivia's semi-glitz styling, but then she lent the 7-year-old a free cupcake dress to compete in. Awww, truly sweet.

Breakfast of Champions: Caylee's gigglefest after getting all hopped up on her morning Mountain Dew was too cute?and contagious. We're still laughing!

Mommie and Daddy Dearest: Lori and hubby-to-be Jay's blatant preference for 5-year-old son Braxton over daughter Alaska breaks our hearts. Instant Car-Ma: Aaand the joke's on them! "Giraffe" Alaska wins Mini Supreme while golden child Braxton only scores Centerfold Supreme?a title that just sounds skeevy to us.

Pitbull Reaches #1 On Hot 100 Billboard Chart

pitbull.jpg

Congrats, Mr. 305!

Pitbull has finally climbed to the top of that golden Billboard ladder with his hit Give Me Everything featuring Ne-Yo.

The Miami rapper first began his Hot 100 journey seven years ago with the song Culo featuring Lil John. A long wait for sure, it's still better than Lil Wayne who had to wait almost nine years before hitting the top spot once on the charts.

It can be tricky getting up there but you did it Pitbull!

You better take advantage of it and drink a lil more than you should tonight!

Snooki reunites with on-again beau

Snooki shared a lip lock with on-again boyfriend Jionni LaValle in front of MTV camera during a walk on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights, NJ on Tuesday.

That was fast!

Less than a month after calling it quits, Nicole (Snooki) Polizzi, 23, and Jionni LaValle appear to be heating back up.

The two were reunited Sunday when the "Jersey Shore" cast partied with friends and family at the Seaside Heights hangout Captain Hook's, according to RadarOnline.com.

GET A ROOM! CELEBS WHO CAN'T TURN OFF THE PDA

They were spotted getting close again on Monday, reports Celebuzz.com, this time holding hands for a late-night walk through the neighborhood. While nothing's been confirmed, Snooki was seen carrying a vase full of pink and red roses that pointed to a romantic reconciliation.

Snooki seems to be on better terms with Jionni LaValle. (Steven Lawton/FilmMagic)

The couple, who began dating last fall, reportedly ended things after LaValle visited the "Shore" cast in Florence earlier this month.

"He went to visit her in Italy this past week," a source told Life & Style at the time. "They fought a lot while he was there and have called it quits."

Trust and distance seemed to be the culprits, with another source adding, "He said it was hard for them to be apart, and that with the whole world knowing her past, he finds it hard to trust her."

The new season of "Jersey Shore" premieres on MTV this August.

Elisabetta Canalis is "Down In the Dumps"

While George Clooney and Elisabetta Canalis have kept mum following last week's breakup, Elisabetta's mom and dad have stepped forward to speak out about the twosome's split.

According to the model's mother, Bruna, the 32-year-old "is very down in the dumps" over the ending of her two-year relationship with the 50-year-old actor, as she told the Italian edition of Vanity Fair.

George, who first met Elisabetta's parents during a visit to Sardinia last year, seemingly made a found impression on her father, as papa Cesare explained, "He is a nice guy, good fun. We had a good time, but there was a lot of attention and we are not used to it."

Canalis' pops is also apparently feeling the heartbreak of his daughter's sudden split from Clooney, telling the mag, "He certainly would have made a good son-in-law, but it's my daughter who has to decide."

Christina Aguilera is "Under Pressure" on ?The Voice?

Last night?s ?The Voice? season finale Part One was quite the audio/visual ride, and Christina Aguilera brought her A-game once again.

The ?Ain?t No Other Man? songstress joined forces with Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, and Blake Shelton for a killer rendition of Queen?s ?Under Pressure.?

And it seems that the coaches love Queen, as earlier this month they performed a medley of the classic rock band?s songs.

The eight finalists of the evening were Beverly McClellan, Vicci Martinez, Javier Jolon, Dia Frampton, Frenchie Davis, Casey Weston, Nakia, and Xenia.

?Transformers: Dark of the Moon? Premieres in NYC

Adding to the already massive amount of hype, ?Transformers: Dark of the Moon? held its New York City premiere tonight (June 28).

The action-packed third installment of the uber-popular series drew quite a crowd in Times Square, as stars like Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington Whiteley, Tyrese Gibson, Patrick Dempsey and Josh Duhamel all showed up.

Also on-hand for the "Transformers" premiere were famous siblings Willow and Jaden Smith, Alessandra Ambrosio, Erin Heatherton and singing sensation Gabrielle Union.

During a recent interview, LaBeouf chatted about the future of the franchise, and that he?ll be going out with a bang with this movie.

"I just don't think right now there's anywhere to take Sam. If you'd asked me fifteen years ago if I would be here, I would've said, 'No way.' I don't have a grand plan. There's not this grand scheme. I just fall into movies. I'm blessed in that regard. The movies I've been involved in, it's never been plotted and planned and picked.?

?I was seventeen when I met [director] Michael [Bay], and I'm sort of Michael Bay-raised. I've learned a great deal from Michael, as a person, as an actor, as a person on set. And it's not that I don't enjoy working with Michael. I love working with Michael. I would do any movie Michael wants to do. I just don't think there's anywhere to take it with Sam."

Jennifer Weiner has chick lit, 'Georgia' on her mind

By Carol Memmott, USA TODAY

Best-selling chick-lit author Jennifer Weiner has much to celebrate: the 10th anniversary of her hit novel Good in Bed, which made plus-size heroines fashionable; a new novel, Then Came You, out July 12; and her headfirst jump into producing State of Georgia, a new TV show starring Raven-Symon (premieres Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family). Weiner, 41, spoke with USA TODAY about her busy summer.

  • Jennifer Weiner has a novel about surrogacy, 'Then Came You,' hitting shelves July 12.

By Andrea Cipriani Mecchi

Jennifer Weiner has a novel about surrogacy, 'Then Came You,' hitting shelves July 12.

Q:How didGood in Bedchange the landscape of women's fiction?

A: It made the world of fiction safe for bigger heroines. When I was growing up, it was a lot of Judith Krantz and it was a lot of these women who were more beautiful than you would ever be, wealthier than you'd ever be ? like Shirley Conran's Lace, where every character was this drop-dead stunner.

Q: So it became OK for a novel's heroine to be plus-size?

A: When you look at what people were calling chick lit back then, it was very glamorous and New York-y. My woman characters were a little more grounded and a little more real. Before, if you were going to have a big girl, she was the best friend or she was going to undergo some magical transformation and turn into a beauty by the end of the book.

Q: Is chick lit thriving?

A: There are certain factions that hated the idea of chick lit, hated its popularity, hated that what they saw as these frivolous books that had nothing to say and were only about sex and shoes and shopping were doing so well. They are now doing the happy dance on what they think is chick lit's grave. I think those books are still with us. I don't think a genre that was just about sex, shoes and shopping would have any kind of staying power at all.

Q: How do you define it?

A: "Real" chick lit speaks very personally to women about their lives and about their choices. Those books are always going to be with us. Women want to read stories about characters who feel familiar and whose choices feel relatable.

Q: Is surrogacy, the focus ofThen Came You, your new novel, still a hot-button issue?

A: Surrogacy has been around since Abraham and Sarah, but money is the last great taboo. The idea that someone with enough money can just will a baby into being ? that's fascinating to me.

Q: How did you become executive producer of your own TV series?

A: The people at ABC said, "We like your books. We really like what you do with strong female characters. Why don't you see if you can come up with some TV shows for us?" I partnered with Jeff Greenstein, who writes for Desperate Housewives and was show runner on Will & Grace, and we came up with State of Georgia, about two young women who move to New York to try and make it.

Q: What's it like?

A: It's sort of Laverne & Shirley. It's a little Sex and the City. A little Ally McBeal. It's that moment in your 20s when you're right out of college and you've been defined as one thing growing up and as a student and as a young woman, and now you're on your own and get to define yourself. That moment has so much appeal for me and seemed to have the potential for a lot of comedy and a lot of emotion, too.

Q: Tell us about the show's star, Raven-Symon, who plays Georgia.

A: What we were looking for was a larger-than-life, bubbly, exuberant, confident young woman who was convinced of her own worth even when the world couldn't see it. I really think that's what we have with Raven. She's this incredibly natural comedienne.

Q: Is Georgia a classic Jennifer Weiner character?

A: The original intention was for Georgia to be a big, curvy girl, and that would be one of the obstacles she dealt with while pursuing her acting career. She wanted to play the ingnue and the bombshell, and people would want to cast her as the funny best friend. Raven has lost a lot of weight, and that's been a challenge we've been dealing with. But in terms of her sense of humor and outlook on life, Georgia's going to feel familiar to anyone who loved Canny in Good in Bed or Becky in Little Earthquakes and Addy in Best Friends Forever.

Q: You have more than 28,000 followers on Twitter (@jenniferweiner). Is it fun?

A: It's so much fun, but there's a lot of discipline, too, in that 140-characters thing ? how pithy or on point can you be in this tiny bit of space? That's a good exercise for a writer. I love live-tweeting The Bachelor and The Bachelorette. Hands down, it's the high point of any week.

By Jamie McCarthy, WireImage

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Shia LaBeouf were part of the 'Transformers' takeover in Times Square.

Where:Times Square, New York City

When: Tuesday night

Guest list from the film: Shia LaBeouf, director and executive producer Michael Bay, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, Patrick Dempsey, Tyrese Gibson, Ken Jeong, John Turturro, Frances McDormand, Kevin Dunn, Buzz Aldrin, Alan Tudyk. Additional guests included Alessandra Ambrosio, Derek Hough, Jimmie Johnson, Josh Kelly, Jaden Smith, Willow Smith, Jason Statham and Dwyane Wade.

Times Square takeover: Paramount pulled out all the stops for the blockbuster flick, shutting down Times Square for a Transformers-style takeover. Hot cars, a giant Bumblebee 'bot and a live DJ kept hundreds of fans entertained, some of whom brought signs, such as "Hey Shia, I bet I can transform ya!" Even Aldrin was on hand to kick off the third installment, which starts off with a 1960s NASA conspiracy and ends with Autobots and Decepticons waging 3-D war in modern-day Chicago.

Meet the new girl: Goodbye, Megan Fox. Hello, Huntington-Whiteley! The model-turned-actress first met Bay shooting commercials for Victoria's Secret. TF3's new damsel in distress found it "a little challenging at times wearing high heels on that set." With only three weeks to prepare, the first thing she had to perfect was her run, "because my run looked like Phoebe from Friends," she said with a laugh. But there's one thing she already had in the bag: "The scream was all mine, au naturel." Bay said it was time for a fresh face. "I had a good run with Megan," he said. "I like discovering people. Rosie's another discovery. She did a great job." LaBeouf was a little more blunt when asked about the difference between co-stars. "(Rosie) is lovely and she's got levity, she's light. Where we came from wasn't necesarily light."

Last call for Shia? Although LaBeouf called TF3 "the best script we've ever had," he confirmed it will be his last Transformers movie. "This is like my graduation," he said. "No sadness at all. I'm super-excited. This is the best movie we've ever made." The star, who recently acknowledged hooking up with past co-stars (Fox and Isabel Lucas), said he doesn't regret his recent tell-all candor. His next move? Playing a Depression-era bootlegger in The Wettest County in the World.

Trouble on set: LaBeouf also acknowledged it wasn't all smooth sailing on Bay's set. During an emotional scene with Bumblebee, "on a big, huge" set day, "my priorities and (Bay's) didn't match that day and we had a little wrestle. I need time to get where I'm going to go. If I'm going to cry, it's going to take me a minute. Sometimes it doesn't always work with Mike's schedule. So that was a tough day."

Fashion notes from Rosie: "I wanted to dress like a Transformer tonight," Huntington-Whiteley said, in Jessica Rabbit-red Antonio Berardi. On her world-wide romp the top model wore sexy fuchsia and black Michael Kors gowns in Moscow and Rio de Janeiro, a backless silver dress from pal Naeem Khan in Berlin, and a slinky navy Burberry dress by friend Christopher Bailey in London. "I've been very lucky, designers were very kind to me," she said. "The Gucci dress (from Moscow) I'd seen on a runway and adored."

Surprise cameos: A recent test audience cheered when two Oscar favorites popped up on the screen, giving TF3's 'bot world a shot of humanity. John Malkovich plays LaBeouf's psychotic new boss, and his former Burn After Reading co-star Frances McDormand appears as the director of national intelligence. "I've always loved them," said Bay. Duhamel was thrilled, too. "Fargo is one of my favorite movies," he said of the McDormand film. "When I heard I was going to do scenes with her, I was well prepared, let me put it that way." Meanwhile, Dempsey pops up as a villain in the flick. Going from the Grey's set, "you go from a set that's very feminine to one that's very masculine."

Director's notes: Bay took a minute to take on the critics. "There are 300 critics in the world. There's tens and tens and tens of millions of fans in the world. I make the movies for them. I'm not here to please 300 people. This is summertime fun, this is not brain surgery. ? To do a movie like this is so complex, there are few people in the world that can do it, and I work with the best people in the world. So shame on all the critics that say that this is not art in its own way."

Lady Gaga Responds to Bracelet Lawsuit

In hopes of doing a good deed, Lady Gaga began selling $5.00 wristbands for Japan relief on her website, but a lawyer located in the mid-west recently filed a lawsuit against the singer's efforts.

Alyson Oliver, an attorney based in Michigan, reportedly believes that not all the money for the wristbands is going to a relief fund for the devastated country after looking into the costs as well as the shipping charges.

The lawsuit, which was filed on Friday in federal court in Detroit, seeks class-action status and possible refunds for people who bought wristbands.

A spokesman for Lady Gaga said, "This misguided lawsuit is without merit and unfortunately takes attention away from the kind deeds of the fans around the world who are supporting the people of Japan.

"The entire $5 donation made with the purchase of each bracelet is going to support the disaster relief. No profit is being made on shipping costs. Sales tax charges were made in accordance with local legal requirements.?

"Lady Gaga has personally pledged her own funds to this cause and continues to support the victims of the disaster.

Elizabeth Hurley planning holiday with Shane and kids

Elizabeth Hurley has revealed she and Shane Warne have introduced their children to each other and are planning a family holiday.

Elizabeth Hurley and Shane Warne are planning a holiday with their children.

The pair have enjoyed an on/off relationship for the last six months, and are looking forward to a sunshine break after the 46-year-old beauty introduced her nine-year-old son Damian to the sportsman's three kids Brooke, 13, Summer, 11, and Jackson, eight.

Speaking of the break, which is due to take place in the coming weeks, she confirmed: "Yes, all of us."

Despite the increasing seriousness of their romance, Elizabeth admits it is a "challenge" dating the retired Australian cricketer because they live in different countries.

She said: "The biggest problem is we're 23 hours apart. It's a challenge. We'll see what happens."

The biggest problem is we're 23 hours apart. It's a challenge. We'll see what happens.

But Elizabeth insists she and Shane - who comes to the UK for a TV commentary job - have a lot in common, despite their different backgrounds.

She said: "We come from different worlds, so I see that's fascinating, if not odd, too many. But it's not often you meet people you instantly feel comfortable with, and when you find that - even if there are vast differences in background and experiences - it's worth following through. When you recognise you have a lot in common with someone it's nice to explore."

As well as holidaying with Shane, Elizabeth is also planning to go away with her "best friends" - former boyfriend Hugh Grant and ex-husband Arun Nayar.

In an interview with the British edition of Grazia magazine, she said: "Hugh and Arun are my two best friends and I wouldn't have it any other way - I'd feel bereft if it was.

"When someone has been so instrumental in your life you can't cut them out. It's like trying to annihilate your past.

"Arun has raised Damian since he was a few months old and is absolutely Damian's father while Hugh is a very hands-on godfather.

"Hugh and Arun also get on well and we'll have more holidays where we all go away together."

Damian's biological father is film producer and American real estate developer Steve Bing, who the actress-and-model briefly dated in 2001.
