Arraignment set for armed robbery suspect nabbed by Glendale police in North Hollywood

VAN NUYS - One of two reputed gang members charged in connection with a series of armed robberies in the San Fernando Valley -- in a spree that ended with a shooting by Glendale police who spotted them during an unrelated stakeout -- was scheduled to be arraigned today.

Christopher Rosalio Morales, 21, was charged Thursday with nine felony counts of second-degree robbery, along with gun and gang allegations, according to the District Attorney's Office.

His co-defendant, 18-year-old David Cesar Santos, was shot by police during the pair's arrest Tuesday and remains hospitalized.

He will be arraigned at a later date on two counts of second-degree robbery and a single count of assault on a peace officer.

Morales and Santos are accused of taking part in robberies dating back to Nov. 30. At the time of his arrest, Morales was out on bail in a grand theft case, according to the District Attorney's Office.

According to Glendale police, detectives conducting a surveillance operation in North Hollywood witnessed an armed robbery at Sylvan Street and Colfax Avenue around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday. When the detectives intervened, the suspects jumped into a Chrysler PT Cruiser and the driver slammed into a detective's vehicle.

Police opened fire and wounded Santos.
