Chris Brown accepts award for best male R&B artist at the BET Awards on Sunday.LOS ANGELES - Hotheaded singer Chris Brown won four honors at Sunday night's BET Awards, but in an awkward moment, one of his trophies was mistakenly given to his ex-girlfriend Rihanna.
A fan brought on stage to present the viewers' choice award initially claimed Brown was the recipient, then said Rihanna had won.
Following a commercial break, host Kevin Hart cleared things up, announcing Brown was the true choice for the honor.
Brown, 22, who in 2009 pleaded guilty to beating up Rihanna, was also named best male R&B artist, received a second fan award and the honor for best collaboration for his song "Look at Me Now" with Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes.
Kanye West was named best male hip-hop artist, and Nicki Minaj accepted best female hip-hop artist.
Diddy Dirty Money was chosen best group, and siblings Jaden and Willow Smith tied for the young stars award.
