In the newlyweds' first public outing since returning from their exotic Seychelles honeymoon last month, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (also known as Prince William and Kate Middleton) wowed spectators by making a fashionable appearance close to home this weekend at the prestigious horse race known as Epsom Derby.Kate, 29, wore a cream-colored ensemble featuring a tailored jacket and flowing miniskirt with taupe pumps. Her sleek updo was topped by a perfectly placed, relatively understated (in British headgear-happy circles, that is) hat.
William, 28, and his younger brother, Prince Harry, buttoned up in traditional top hat and tails.
The Saturday afternoon race took place at Epsom Downs near London. The couple's attendance, according to People.com, was in support of Queen Elizabeth's horse, Carlton House, a favorite to win (the monarch's horse placed third). The Queen was seen at the derby dressed in bright pink.
Kate's parents, James and Carole Middleton, also attended the event, in support of a horse who ultimately came in fourth.
The royal family will be celebrating the Queen's 85th birthday next weekend, as well as the 90th birthday of her husband, Prince Philip. And as if that's not enough revelry for the Windsors, Prince William will be turning 29 on June 21.
At the very end of June, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are scheduled to fly to North America for an 11-day visit that includes stops in Canada and Los Angeles.
