Willie Nelson won't have to sing 'Blue Eyes' in court: judge

Willie Nelson will not have to sing in court, a Texas judge said.

Blue eyes may be crying in the rain, but Willie Nelson won't be singing about it in court.

A Texas judge said a request that the singer perform his hit "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" in the courtroom in exchange for leniency on a minor drug bust was just a joke.

Hudspeth County prosecutor Kit Bramblett said earlier this month that if Nelson sung for the court, she would let him slide with a $100 fine on charges stemming from a November arrest for pot possession.

But Judge Becky Dean-Walker said Tuesday that the prosecutor was trying to be funny and "it got out of hand."

She also said that Nelson can plead guilty and pay the fine without coming to court and singing.

Bramblett had been playful about the case from the start, telling reporters, "You can bet your a-- I'm not going to be mean to Willie Nelson."

But Dean-Walker had suggested that she might not take it easy on the 77-year-old country legend.

"My court is not a jester court," Dean-Walker said. "I understand that people are star struck, I'm not one of them."

Nelson was arrested Nov. 26 at a Border Patrol checkpoint in Sierra Blanca, Tex., after cops found 6 ounces of pot in his tour bus.
