Lindsay Lohan Rejects Plea Deal, Heading To Trial

Lindsay Lohan will not take a plea deal in her felony grand theft case, paving the way for a trial in a Los Angeles court, TMZ said Wednesday.

Lohan, 24, is accused of stealing a $2,500 necklace from a boutique but has denied any wrongdoing.

TMZ cited unnamed sources as saying Lohan met with her lawyer, Shawn Holley, Tuesday and told her she wants to go to trial to prove her innocence. ?Though many advised her to follow the safe route by taking ?the deal?, the truth is, Ms Lohan is innocent; she has a strong defence; and we are confident that a jury will listen to the evidence fairly and acquit her,? Holley wrote.

The preliminary hearing is set for April 22 and will be conducted by a new judge ? the fourth one Lohan has faced in the past year ? who will determine whether there is enough evidence for Lohan to stand trial on the felony grand theft charge.

The ?Mean Girls? and ?Freaky Friday? star is on probation for a 2007 driving-under-the-influence conviction.
